SINGAPORE AIRLINES TO ADVERTISE ALL-INCLUSIVE PRICES GLOBALLY
Airline responds to customer demand, VP says
Singapore Airlines today announced that it will advertise the price of its air tickets on an all-inclusive basis from 1 January 2008. All advertising will show the full price payable by the customer at the time of sale, inclusive of all taxes, surcharges and fees. The airline’s executive vice president marketing and regions, Huang Cheng Eng, said the wide variety of extra charges in recent years, and the fact that they now form a greater part of the total price, has led to consumer demand for all-inclusive pricing. The separation of fare, taxes, surcharges and fees will be maintained as part of the booking process, and customers will be able to see a breakdown of the ticket online. PASSPORT REQUIREMENT DELAY LIKELY
Passports won't be necessary for Americans and Canadians entering the United States by land until mid-2009 - a year later than planned - if a budget bill passed Thursday by Congress is approved by President George W. Bush. A provision of a budget bill passed Thursday pushes back by a year the plan by the Department of Homeland Security to require passports from border-crossers from Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean as a way of strengthening national security. U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy, a Democrat from Vermont, said he expects Bush to sign the bill, despite the administration's insistence on implementing the passport requirement next summer.
