Award-winning company hosts agent appreciation night Hilary Genders

| Praveen Syal, director, Indus Travels; Snarlyne Khriem, regional director, India Tourism | | Indus Travels is in a celebratory mood – again – after being named “Best Overseas Tour Operator To India, Americas” by India’s Ministry of Tourism for the second consecutive year. And the Richmond, B.C.-based company shared its success with agents last night at an appreciation dinner held at Vancouver’s Sutton Place Hotel. Praveen Syal, director of Indus Travels, was “re-presented” with the award by Snarlyne Khyriem, regional director, India Tourism, who flew in from New York to offer congratulations. Syal was first given the award at India’s National Tourism Awards Ceremony in New Dehli earlier this year – see THNWest.com’s coverage of the Delhi event here.

| FAM participants Sakau Rainforest of Borneo | | Seven lucky agents travelled for free to Malaysia May 20-31 as part of a Malaysia Rewards FAM hosted by Tourism Malaysia and Silk Holidays. Shannon Somerton from Travel Wise, Gail Muskeyn and Julia Calder from Uniglobe Geo, Cathy Palmer from Uniglobe Specialty, Janie Richardson from Marlin Travel, Angela Huang from Jacco Travel, Emily Hayes from Renshaw Travel and Lillian Chang from Lion Travel were the lucky group of agents who booked clients on Malaysia trips with Silk Holidays and were then selected by a draw to participate in the complimentary FAM. The trip was part of the annual Malaysia Mega Familiarization Programme, one of the biggest travel agent events in Malaysia. Five hundred travel agents from all over the world went to Kuala Lumpur for this special occasion.

| SUNWING NAMED ONE OF CANADA'S FASTEST GROWING COMPANIES |

Only travel and tourism-related company to make the grade
Sunwing Vacations Group has again been named one of Canada’s 100 fastest growing companies by Profit magazine – the only travel and tourism-related company to make the list. This marks the third consecutive time the company has appeared on the magazine’s annual list, which features a wide array of corporations including engineering and construction, tech sector and financial services. Sunwing is in 34th position after showing an increase in sales of 1,800 per cent in the past five years, from $14 million in 2002 to $259 million in 2007.

| ANZ INTRODUCES INFLIGHT ENTERTAINMENT FROM BOARDING TO LANDING |

Average of one hour extra viewing time per flight
Clients flying on Air New Zealand 777 and 747 aircraft can now enjoy their personal seat-back entertainment system from the moment they sit down to the moment the aircraft lands. Previously the system could only be turned on once the aircraft was airborne and was turned off again early in descent to prepare the cabin for landing. Air New Zealand Group general manager international airline Ed Sims says the enhancement provides on average an extra hour of viewing time per flight to enjoy more than 250 movies and TV programmes and extensive CD library.

Nanaimo home to Canada’s newest dedicated conference centre
The Vancouver Island Conference Centre, the flagship of the new Port of Nanaimo Centre, which also encompasses the new Nanaimo Museum, the 200-seat Shaw Auditorium and the Port Theatre, is set to host its first conference attendees next month. “We are proud to offer the convention and conference industry such an outstanding facility,” said Philippe Gadbois, senior vice president, Atlific Hotels. “It truly is first-class, boasting a long list of superior amenities that includes some of the most advanced audio and visual technology in Canada.”

| ADVENTURE CANADA ANNOUNCES NEW TRIP FOR 2008 |

Baffin Expedition departs September 2
Adventure Canada has announced the addition of their Baffin Explorer program in partnership with the Walrus Foundation, September 2-12. The Walrus Foundation is a charitable non-profit organization with a mandate to promote public discourse on matters vital to the country, including all things arctic. The Baffin Expedition will journey from Kuujjuaq to Resolute north along the coast of Baffin Island. Highlights of this expedition include Ungava Bay, Clyde River and Beechey Island. This new arctic expedition will include Inuit community stops and rich opportunities for seeking out wildlife such as polar bears, bowhead whales, walrus and seabirds. In addition to Adventure Canada's usual accompaniment of resource staff, joining us on this adventure will be CBC Radio’s Shelagh Rogers, host of Sounds like Canada, Shelley Ambrose, publisher of The Walrus magazine and musician Barney Bentall.
