KELOWNA GETS NEW AIRPORT GM

Sam Samaddar is appointed as new airport general manager for Kelowna International Airport
The City of Kelowna has announced the appointment of Sam Samaddar as the new Kelowna International Airport’s general manager effective Wednesday. “Sam brings respected leadership and experience to the Kelowna International Airport,” says city manager Ron Mattiussi.  “Over the last five months Sam has led the Airport, its staff and tenants as the interim general manager and he has done an excellent job. I am pleased to make his role in this position permanent.” Samaddar has been with the Kelowna International Airport since 1992 where he assumed the position of superintendent airport operations and has held numerous positions, including assistant general manager jobs for both airport operations and airport development. WESTJET FINDS THE SUN
WestJet expands capacity in Mexico, adding Cancun and Puerto Vallarta
Yesterday, WestJet and WestJet Vacations announced the introduction of seasonal non-stop service to two new international sun destinations in Mexico: Cancun and Puerto Vallarta. These new sun destinations are part of WestJet’s enhanced winter schedule, which also includes increased frequency to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Palm Springs, Orlando, Honolulu, Maui, Cabo San Lucas and Mazatlan (Mexico), and Nassau (Bahamas) from many cities across Canada. “Cancun and Puerto Vallarta are huge additions to our network that truly show the progression of our international expansion into sun spots,” said Bob Cummings, Executive Vice-President of Guest Experience and Marketing at WestJet. As of November 2008, WestJet will fly to 51 destinations, 22 of which are sun destinations in the U.S., Mexico and the Caribbean. By 2013, WestJet will fly to over 65 scheduled destinations. DELTA FLIES TO PANORAMA MOUNTAIN VILLAGE
Delta Airlines announces direct flights to the Canadian Rockies International Airport

As of December 17, Delta Airlines will fly direct from Salt Lake City to the new Canadian Rockies International Airport, in Cranbrook, B.C.  With this new service in place, over 65 million travellers from across the United States can now fly to the Kootenay Rockies region within less than half a day. To celebrate the new service, Delta Airlines is throwing an introductory seat sale.  For a limited time only, book a round-trip to or from Salt Lake City, Utah, for under $330.  Additional taxes, fees, restrictions and baggage charges may apply.

Flyglobespan offers complimentary seat selection and in-flight meals
Flyglobespan is offering two aspects of air travel complimentary to all of its passengers – advance seat selection and in-flight meals, regardless of the category. G.A.P Adventures hosts 5th annual Skydive for Charity in Calgary and Toronto – raised more than $18,500
G.A.P Adventures recently held its 5th annual skydive for charity in Calgary and Toronto, raising more than $18,545. More than 30 skydivers participated and selected either an instructor assisted deployment skydive, jumping solo from 3500 feet, or a tandem skydive, where the skydiver and Jumpmaster freefall together for 35 seconds from 10,500 feet at over 120 miles per hour. G.A.P Adventures covered 50 per cent of the jump fees for all participants and in return, skydivers raised funds for Planeterra - G.A.P Adventures’ non-profit foundation. Sponsors included: Bullfrog Power, M&M Meat Shops, and post-event sponsors Vex and Cameron’s Ale.

CATHAY JET LANDS SAFELY WHILE DAMAGED

A Cathay Pacific 747 jet suffered some unspecified damage while descending into Vancouver International Airport yesterday, but landed safely. None of the 363 passengers aboard the jumbo jet were hurt. Cathay Pacific spokeswoman Jennifer Pearson says the plane was en route from New York when something went wrong at 20,000 feet. Pearson says arrangements are being made to get the passengers on another plane to continue their journey to Hong Kong.
