RISING LOONIE SENT CANUCKS ACROSS BORDER IN NOV. Canadian Press Statistics Canada says the soaring loonie had Canadians travelling in record numbers in November. The agency reported Friday that Canadian residents made a record 2.4 million overnight trips outside the country during the month, up 7.6 per cent from the previous high recorded in October. Overnight car trips to the U.S. rose 16.2 per cent to 1.1 million, the highest number in more than 15 years. Since the end of 2006, overnight auto trips south of the border have risen by 43.6 per cent. |

| Reps from the Maui Visitors Bureau and several resorts hang loose in Vancouver | | More than 25 Vancouver-area travel writers enjoyed a fun and informative evening at the Four Seasons Hotel last week as they learned about the latest public relations campaign from Maui Nui (Maui, Moloka’i and Lana’i), “Romance Me Maui”. Representatives from the Maui Visitors Bureau and several resorts were on hand to explain why Maui, which has been voted “Best Island in the World” by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler for 12 consecutive years, is the destination for romantic vacations in 2008. Guests were welcomed with a traditional Hawaiian chant by Keli’i Brown of the Maui Visitors Bureau, before sitting down to dinner.

508,464 passengers chose YXX in 2007; further growth expected for 2008
Last year was another record-breaking year for Abbotsford International Airport. In 2007 508,464 passengers flew out of YXX, surpassing the record set in 2006, when 502,633 passengers chose the airport. Passenger traffic is expected to grow in 2008 as more regional travellers continue to discover the ease and convenience of traveling from Abbotsford. “The Fraser Valley is one of the fastest growing regions in Canada and we are very excited about the new record numbers,” said Dave Kandal, chair of the Abbotsford Airport Authority.
