B.C. FARM FEASTS RECOGNIZED BY CONDE NAST
Condé Nast Traveler magazine is recommending top “farm tables”in its February 2008 issue, and two Vancouver Island properties – Fairburn Farm in Cowichan Valley and the Sooke Harbour House have made the list. WINNIPEG HOTELS TO INTRODUCE 2% MARKETING FEE
As of May 1, many Winnipeg hotels will be adding a two per cent “destination marketing fee” to guests’ bills, the Manitoba Hotel Association (MHA) has announced. MHA CEO Jim Baker says Winnipeg is the only major Canadian city that does not currently have such a fee. The new policy is a voluntary one; Baker says that to date, about 80 per cent of the city’s hotels are planning to institute the charge. The money collected from the charge will go to a destination marketing fund used to help attract events to Winnipeg.

AVALANCHES SHUT MAJOR HWY LINKS IN B.C.
Travel to and from the B.C. Interior is next to impossible today as avalanches have severed two of three routes. The Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt is closed indefinitely following an avalanche yesterday. Travellers are being advised to use Hwy 1 through the Fraser Canyon, but an avalanche this morning has closed the Trans-Canada from Hope to Boston Bar, meaning the only remaining route connecting southwestern B.C. with the Interior is via Hwy 3, the Hope-Princeton Highway. Finally, extreme avalanche conditions in southeastern B.C. have closed the Trans-Canada from Revelstoke to Golden, with Highways Ministry officials estimating the road won't re-open until at least
4 p.m. this afternoon.
