HAINAN AIRLINES LAUNCHES SEATAC - BEIJING SERVICE
Hainan Airlines has announced it will launch its first service to North America with non-stop flights from Seattle to Beijing beginning on June 9, 2008. The flight will operate four times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Flight HU 496 will depart from Seattle at 2 p.m. and arrive in Beijing at 4:35 p.m. the following day; flight HU 495 will depart from Beijing at 4:20 p.m. and arrive in Seattle at noon the same day. Initial flights will be on new Airbus A330-200 aircraft offering 36 business class and 186 economy class seats. The airline’s North American reservation and information number is 1-888-688-8813.

The Addison “A Team” proved rain nor sleet nor snow, nor ice – nor arctic temperatures – can stop Canada’s only national series of independent travel trade shows. The team was tested by Mother Nature in its recent Alberta series, but pulled through with two shows in Edmonton and Calgary. More than 180 hardy travel agents defied the travel advisory and the bone-chilling cold on January 29 and came to do business with a wide variety of exhibitors – many making their Addison debut -- at the Westin Edmonton. REGINA AIRPORT AUTHORITY NAMES NEW CEO
Retired Brigadier General Jim Hunter to take up new duties March 1

The board of directors of the Regina Airport Authority announced the appointment of James (Jim) Hunter as its new president and chief executive officer. Hunter, who currently lives in St. Albert, Alberta, is a retired Canadian Forces brigadier general with a strong background in aviation management. He brings more than 35 years of experience in executive positions, including 15 years in the senior ranks of the military, to his new position in Regina. "Being a pilot, I"ve always liked being around airplanes and aviation activities of any kind," Hunter told TRAVELHotNews West in a telephone interview this morning. "So when I heard about the opportunity here, it was a perfect fit, a natural fit for me. At least that's what I thought, and I was lucky enough to have the board agree with me." PRIVACY COMMISSIONERS CONCERNED ABOUT HIGH TECH LICENCES

Canada's privacy commissioners are concerned about plans to introduce high-tech drivers licences across Canada. The  The commissioners told a news conference yesterday that the personal information of Canadians' drivers should stay in Canada if the enhanced driver's licence program proceeds on a permanent basis. They say there must be meaningful and independent oversight into how U.S. officials receive and use Canadians' personal information. B.C. and the federal government reached an agreement last month to start issuing the enhanced licences on a trial basis. Government spokesman Jamie Edwardson says the province has been in discussions with the provincial privacy commissioner over privacy concerns related to the licences.
NEW NAME, WEBSITE FOR LOS CABOS TOURIST BOARD
The Los Cabos Tourist Board has a new name, the Los Cabos Convention & Visitors Bureau, and a new website address, visitloscabos.travel. The changes reflect the bureau's efforts to "become an even more valuable resource for tourists, meeting planners and travel agents," according to Gonzalo Franyutti, the bureau's president.
