NEWAIR ONE STEP CLOSER TO LAUNCH A group of six former WestJet executives and managers is one step closer to starting up their planned new airline after receiving financial backing from Sherry Brydson, the niece of the late billionaire Ken Thomson, according to a story run in the Globe and Mail’s Report on Business yesterday. The report says Toronto-based Westerkirk Capital Inc., a private firm that invests on behalf of the Brydson family, has provided more than $4.5-million to the nascent Calgary-based airline – temporarily named NewAir & Tours Group – headed by Tim Morgan, a WestJet co-founder who served as the airline’s executive vice president of operations before leaving the company in 2005. Morgan says NewAir plans to operate charter flights from smaller Canadian cities to U.S. or Mexican sun destinations during the winter season, and to larger Canadian gateways in the warmer summer months. The new airline could be ready to launch as early as this fall, the report says. |

"What you see is what you pay" pricing pledge a first for large-scale travel agency in B.C. Hilary Genders
B.C. travellers no longer require a magnifying glass to know how exactly how much their next holiday will cost them – that is, if they book that trip with BCAA Travel. The company has just launched “fully transparent” prices: from now on, all prices posted in BCAA Travel’s ads are exactly what customers will pay – no fine print revealing hidden fees or charges that add up to hundreds of dollars extra. “Essentially, our goal is for customers to be able to come in with cheque in hand for the amount that we’ve advertised, and assuming there still is availability, that’s what they will pay,” Daniel Mirkovic, BCAA vice president of product told THNWest.com yesterday afternoon.
