FLYING AC TO BE MORE COMFORTABLE THIS SUMMER
Aircraft refurbishment program will be “substantially complete” in time for enhanced summer schedule
Air Canada announced Monday that passenger travelling this summer will experience more comfort and more selection, thanks to the substantial progress of its aircraft refurbishment program and its enhanced summer schedule. Changes to Western Canadian routes include a new daily non-stop between Saskatoon and Ottawa; the addition of adding a second daily frequency between Vancouver and Regina, a third daily flight between Vancouver and Prince Rupert, a third daily flight between Kamloops and Calgary, a fourth daily flight each between Calgary and the cities of Fort McMurray and Victoria, and a fifth daily flight between Edmonton and Fort McMurray and between Calgary and Montreal. RIVER ROCK CASINO RESORT TO UNDERGO $118 MILLION EXPANSION
Five-storey, 191-room hotel planned to open at Richmond, B.C. resort before 2010 Olympics

Great Canadian Gaming Corporation has announced plans to develop a new five-storey, 191 room hotel at its River Rock Casino Resort. The planned expansion will also feature 360 additional parking spaces – in addition to a previously announced 1,200-space garage already under construction; 15,000 square feet of street level retail space, 6,000 square feet of professional and office space – including operations space for the R.C.M.P and Greater Vancouver Transit Authority Police; and a Canada Line mass transit station. Virgin America, which launched service just last August, has announced it will begin service from Seattle starting in March 18 -- just in time for travellers in the region to take advantage of the airline's special "Why Leap When You Can Fly" fare promotion, with one-way flights starting as low as US $69, from Seattle to San Francisco. Seattle departures will also be available to Los Angeles, San Diego, New York and Washington, D.C. YXX SOARS TO NEW PAX HEIGHTS
Abbotsford International Airport continues to break passenger records. The passenger numbers for January 2008 increased 3.9 per cent over January 2007. “This is great news for the airport, and we plan to continue this momentum throughout 2008,” said Dave Kandal, chair of the Abbotsford Airport Authority. Renovations to the International Arrivals area were completed in December and enhancements in the food and beverage area are underway. White Spot is scheduled to open a restaurant and lounge area in the airport terminal this spring. Also coming this spring is non-stop service from Abbotsford to Toronto aboard WestJet beginning May 18.
