Kathy Kondas wins trip for two to the Riviera Maya courtesy of Sunwing Vacations
 |
| Duty Free in the Masai Mara by Kathy Kondas | | TRAVELHotNews and Sunwing Vacations are pleased to announce the grand prize winner of THN Western Edition’s Snapshots 3 contest. Congratulations goes out to Kathy Kondas of Whittome’s Travel, who’s “Duty Free in the Masai Mara” entry won her a trip for two to the Riviera Maya courtesy of Sunwing Vacations. The one-week trip, worth over $2,300, includes hotel stay at the all-inclusive Grand Sunset Princess hotel. Kondas told TRAVELHotNews that the photo was taken in Kenya this past November when she was on a fam trip with Altec Travel. "We had just flown into the Masai Mara from Nairobi and the 'airport' wasn't much more than a strip of dirt," she explained. "When we got off the plane we were greeted by several Masai warriors dancing and singing for us in their beautiful coloured clothes and beaded jewellery. It was quite amazing. I was just looking at the surroundings and there were a few so-called gift shops and the duty free shop which I thought was quite humorous."

Native-run casinos in Saskatchewan are posting record profits. The Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority has announced that its revenues have reached $191 million, generating $60 million in profits. About 50 per cent of the profits go to First Nations communities, while the rest goes to the provincial government and regional development corporations. Zane Hansen, Chief Executive of the agency, says the opening of a casino on the Whitecap First Nation south of Saskatoon helped boost revenues. Two more casinos, one in Yorkton the other in Swift Current, are also expected to open in the coming months.
