Saskatchewan residents receive passport alternative when traveling south of the boarder Canadian Press
Saskatchewan residents looking to travel south of the border by land or water are getting an alternative to a passport. The provincial government said Wednesday that starting April 2009, residents can apply for an enhanced driver's licence or identification card. “This enhanced card will be useful for people who live close to the borders who make frequent travel across the border in their vehicle, who don't really want to carry a passport all the time,” said Saskatchewan Government Insurance spokeswoman Sherry Wolf. “It's a convenient option for that purpose.” The cards would contain a chip with a code that would be scanned as the holder approaches a border point. Border officials would then be able to use that code to access information.

Delta Hotels will continue the expansion of its resort property holdings with the September opening of the Delta Grand Okanagan Resort and Conference Centre in Kelowna, British Columbia. TRAVELHotNews Western Edition (THN West) spoke to R. Gordon Johnson, Regional Vice President & General Manager for Delta, regarding the new Kelowna addition who said “it was only a matter of time before Delta invested in the Kelowna property. Delta started as a Vancouver hotel company,” Johnson told THN West. “It has always been home for us, and we always looked at Kelowna as being a prime market in the B.C. interior. It is a hub for both business and leisure. It was a critical market for us to get into and no other hotel possessed the right fit, feel or setting.”
