Aussie Travel Expo a hit at Vancouver's Science World

| The entrance to the "Planet Oz" exhibit photo courtesy Science World | | Australia took centre stage at Vancouver's Science World at Telus World of Science April 5-6 at the opening of the new exhibit Planet Oz: A Walk on Australia's Wild Side. As part of the G'day Vancouver: Australia Week 2008 event, representatives from Tourism Australia, state tourism boards, Goway and Qantas were on hand at the Aussie Travel Expo, held outside the exhibit, which features the unique wildlife found throughout Australia's different regions. They were kept on their toes by Vancouverites of all ages, who visited each booth eager to plan a dream Australian vacation, as well as seminars held in the IMAX theatre. Former WestJetters’ new project “coming soon to an airport near you” Hilary Genders
NewAir & Tours, the nascent charter airline and tour company headed by a tea, of former WestJetters, has launched an informational website where visitors can subscribe to RSS feeds and an electronic newsletter to receive updates about the Calgary-based start-up’s progress. As THNWest.com reported in February, NewAir & Tours is the working name – the site assures readers a real name is forthcoming, pending approval by “the powers that be (lawyers)” – of the “unabashedly Canadian” company that promises to be “the friendly way to get away from it all.” Read on for more information.

Tulip Celebration Package offers best of Canadian Tulip Festival
A group of 38 hotel properties in Ottawa and the Gatineau area have joined together to create a package designed to make it easy – for visitors to enjoy the 55th annual Canadian Tulip Festival this May. The free Canadian Tulip Festival—the largest such festival in the world—runs May 2-19, 2008 in Ottawa. Hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected to enjoy the more than three million flowering plants that fill the parks and open spaces in Canada’s capital. | FRONTIER AIRLINES FILES FOR BANKRUPTCY PROTECTION |

The carrier’s holding company filed voluntary petitions for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code yesterday. The Denver, Colorado-based airline, which services Vancouver International Airport and had served Calgary, says it plans to continue normal operations throughout its reorganization process. This includes maintaining its full schedule of flights, honouring tickets and reservations, providing refunds and exchanges per its standard policy and maintaining its frequent flyer program. | Paul Hasegawa | | Coast Hotels & Resorts has named Paul Hasegawa Director of Sales for the new Coast Coal Harbour Hotel in Vancouver, B.C., which is scheduled to open in fall 2009. Hasegawa, an industry veteran with more than 15 years of experience in hospitality management and operations, is currently director of sales for Vancouver’s Coast Plaza Hotel & Suites, a position he has held for the last five years. Previously, he was Director of Sales and Marketing for the 540-room, five-star Hotel New Otani in Osaka, Japan. In his new position, Hasegawa will be responsible for overseeing corporate, group and conference sales at Coast’s new flagship hotel, located at 1180 West Hastings St., approximately two blocks south of Vancouver's expanded convention centre.
